When Riley was first found, he was too weak. He seemed like a lifeless animal because he was motionless. His body was frail, and he was all skin and bones.
Thankfully, a Good Samaritan spotted him. He stopped and gave him some water. Then, another kind-hearted man reached out to Stray Rescue of St. Louis for further help.
Rescuers immediately responded to the call and picked Riley up. The poor dog was taken straight to the vet’s office, where he received treatment. His wounds were infected, and he was extremely dehydrated.
Riley was given antibiotics and pain meds to help him feel comfortable. The vet also administered fluids to keep him hydrated. But of course, he was given lots of love to make him feel safe.
While he was still weak, Riley managed to nibble some solid food the following day. His eyes looked livelier, as well. And in a week, he started enjoying the sunshine while resting on his wagon.
No one knows exactly what Riley has gone through. But the neglect he suffered is evident in his condition. Yet, he proved just how resilient he is.
With the help of proper medication and lots of tender loving care from his newfound friends, Riley managed to stand on his own, 2 weeks after his rescue. He was also able to take a couple of steps without anyone’s help. And three days after that, he was already out for a short walk.
Rescue staffers are amazed by Riley’s recovery. They cried when the pup started to walk on his own.
While it may still take a few more weeks, everyone is confident that he will make it to a full recovery without any issues. For now, he enjoys his morning exercise on the yard, sniffing every good thing there is to smell.
