It was serendipity that brought this woman and her rescue dog together.
Prue Barber, the founder of Mission Paws’ible, was on her way home when she noticed an old, abandoned dog. He was listless, as if he no longer had the will to continue living. The dog had a bad case of mange and lost most of his fur. He looked as if he did not have much time left to live.
Prue could not ignore the dog. She went along with her instinct to try and rescue the dog. She would think of the consequences later.
Prue named him Henry right away. She was able to slip a leash on Henry without any difficulties and used a can of tuna to coax him to get into the car.
Prue surmised that Henry once belonged to someone. He knew how to sit comfortably in the back seat of the car, and he easily trusted a human. Prue might never find out about Henry’s history, but she was determined to give him a better future.
The first step of Henry’s rehabilitation was a trip to the vet. Thankfully, his condition was not too severe that he was released at once. The vet gave instructions and medicines so that he could continue to recuperate at home.
Henry recovered fast under Prue’s love and care. He loved his comfortable bed, massages, and baths. Prue made sure that he got good food and regular outdoor walks.
Henry’s fur grew back. His happy personality showed especially around Sadie, who was another rescue dog. They got along well together and became best friends.
Prue had grown to love Henry’s gentle soul. She did not really want to break his heart again, so she decided to adopt him. Henry already knew he was home the moment he stepped foot in Prue’s house and claimed a space in her bed.
Prue was forbidden to foster dogs from her own organization because she could not let them go. Whenever she fosters dogs, she ended up adopting them. Prue had good intentions, but it could be too much of a good thing.
