Pit bulls have a bad reputation about being aggressive and unsuitable for families.
These are the most common misconceptions about pit bulls.
And, because of their reputation as fierce animals, the pit bulls become the default breed to fight in illegal dog fighting rings.
This underground criminal activity makes dogs fight against each other, usually to the death, for the entertainment of shady people.
Every year, thousands of dogs leave with new owners after living as participants in illegal dog fighting rings.
Most of these dogs end up traumatized as a result of their past, resulting in an untrusting attitude towards humans.
And, because pit bulls are perceived as vicious animals, people overlook them when looking for rescue dogs to adopt.
A woman named GinaMarie decided to adopt a rescue pit bull living in a local shelter that no one wanted.
When she went to the shelter, she met Felon, a black pit bull with cropped ears.
Felon didn't have a good life before getting rescued.
He used to have a violent life in dogfighting, and before GinaMarie came along, Felon was already scheduled to be put down.
GinaMarie welcomed Felon home, and she immediately saw what she was dealing with.
As soon as Felon stepped inside her home, all he wanted to do was hide in a corner.
When GinaMarie tried to approach Felon, he would growl.
However, GinaMarie refused to give up.
She also didn't want to give him back to the shelter where she was sure he'd only be euthanized.
GinaMarie conceived a new strategy that would prove to help Felon grow out of his shell and show his true personality.
She decided to call her dad and asked him to bring his dog over for a visit.
When Felon saw the senior dog come inside the house, he immediately changed his demeanor and left his corner.
GinaMarie realized that foe Felon to recover from his emotional scars another canine would be required.
She decided to adopt another dog named Envy.
As soon as GinaMarie introduced Envy to Felon, they immediately became best friends.
The two dogs instantly took off, running, and playing around the house.
Envy gave Felon the friendship he needed, and he started to heal emotionally.
Envy even taught Felon to start trusting humans again.
After a couple of years, Felon is an entirely new dog.
All he loves to do now is play with his family, and he also enjoys getting pets from his mom.
