A dog named Smile got her name because of the permanent grin she has. She looks like she's always smiling and anyone who meets her can't help but also smile. However, behind that adorable face, Smile had a terrible past.
Smile grew up in a hoarding situation in a house in Tijuana, Mexico. Although she proved to be quite a resilient pup, she spent years of her life without ever receiving any love and care from humans. She was on her own and was afraid of anything.
Thankfully, she and the other dogs were rescued by an animal rescue group called At-Choo Foundation. Smile and the other dogs were all suffering from a painful skin disease. Thankfully, Smile's case wasn't so severe, and was taken in by another rescue group in the US called No Dog Left Behind.
The team at No Dog Left Behind immediately fell in love with Smile's adorable face. No Dog Left Behind operations manager, Stephanie Easley, decided to foster Smile to help her recover from the horror she experienced in her former home.
Initially, Smile had difficulties adjusting to her foster home and was so afraid of sudden movements. Smile was also pregnant when she was rescued. However, because she was so malnourished, her body reabsorbed her unborn puppies to survive.
Eventually, Smile learned to trust her foster family. She's always so sweet and would spend most days cuddling with Stephanie and her children. She gets plenty of love from her foster family, which also helped her thrive and become more confident.
Stephanie knows that her home isn't quite the right forever home for Smile. She wants to save more dogs like Smile, which is why she really can't foster fail her.
