Life Lesson learned early.
Kindness generosity and compassion are what we want to instill in our kids as they grow up. One little boy showed this to his father after repeatedly sneaking away from home.
There is a saying: Train up a child in the way he should go. When he grows older, he will remain on the same path.
A 9-year-old boy showed his father that he learned this lesson early. His father was surprised and proud that he had learned this lesson first.
Trust but Verify
Every day Mike left his house. He did not explain where he was going. Mike told no one of his leaving. Trying to go before he was discovered and return before they knew he was missing. Or so he thought.
Mike’s father Roger trusted Mike. Even still at nine years old he kept a close eye on him. As Mike would leave the house, Roger was just behind him. Out of sight for a little boy but not a watchful father. He wanted to allow Mike freedom while at the same time being sure he was safe.
What is Mike Up Doing?
Roger, at a distance, watched Mike and became very surprised to see; Roger was proud and wanted to cry at the same time.
Mike each day would break away from the family. He thought this was in secret. Roger’s son was not looking for praise or glory. He only wanted to help someone.
Mike found a group of malnourished dogs that daily he was feeding. These were street dogs that had no master. Always hungry and very grateful they loved seeing Mike. The dogs would converge on Mike and show their thankfulness as he fed them.
Even those with little trust of people; Mike had them eating out of his hand.
Good Job Mike!
Roger came close enough for Mike to see him. He seemed embarrassed to have his father find him.
When Roger asked what he was doing Mike said; Bringing food to these hungry dogs. No one else will feed them. I thought it was best. So I did it.
Roger slowly approached the pack. He too began to feed the dogs.
Disease always possible with unfamiliar dogs, Roger ensured that both he and Mike used precautions. They also got caught up on their immunizations.
New Friends More Trust
Roger was so proud of what Mike was doing. He decided to join in and help these neglected animals.
Together they recruited some neighbors. They have started a volunteer organization. This group tries to locate stray dogs, get them immunized and healthy. They are then matched up with families looking for pets.
No big deal says, Mike. We are just feeding the dogs no one else will. Roger says he thought he could trust Mike to be doing the right thing. Now he knows by seeing that it is true.
I don’t know about you, but I think Mike is going to be pretty special when he “all the way” grows up.
They named their group the ‘Hungry Dogs Club,’ and it is a great success. Mike’s father bought a lot near his home and now has one of the largest dog shelters in the area.
As a result, they are rescuing many dogs and cats from malnourishment on the streets.
Please share this story on Facebook and let’s help Mike get the recognition he deserves. Thanks, Mike, for helping so many animals.
