There are stray dogs that deliberately avoid rescuers. This makes them hard to catch and requires special techniques to win over. However, sometimes, it only takes the most simple approach to get their trust.
There was a chihuahua named Honey who frequently wandered around a busy street in Bakersfield. There were many social media posts about her, but no one had ever succeeded in rescuing her. However, all of that changed when a rescuer named Danny Spanks arrived.
Danny tried all the common methods of gaining a dog's trust. He offered treats, but even though Honey would respond, she would back away if approached. She had a reputation for being elusive, and Danny experienced that firsthand.
A breakthrough occurred when Danny rolled a ball towards Honey just to see what would happen. The dog rushed towards the ball attempted to play with it. Danny took that as a sign that she was interested in playing.
On the following days, Danny brought a lot of toys for Honey. Most of them are squeaky toys that are proven to be quite enticing for dogs. The toys paved the way for Danny to get closer to Honey. Eventually, he managed to put her on a leash.
Once Honey was rescued, she warmed up to Danny immediately. She showed her playful and happy side. When Honey was staying with Danny, her behavior was completely the opposite of how she was before getting rescued.
Danny eventually sent Honey to a rescue center. Then after a couple of weeks, she found her forever home. When Danny found out the good news, he became emotional. He's happy that Honey could live in a home where she will be spoiled and cared for.
Danny Spanks plays a vital role in the animal rescue community. He founded an organization called A Safurr Place and has saved countless dogs. Find out more about him and his rescues in the video below.
