Everyone will encounter a stray dog wherever they may be. The only difference is how a person will react when they see one. For the employees of Subway in Portales, New Mexico, their reaction was to feed the stray that went to the restaurant each day.
Nightly visits
The staff at the Portales Subway had a visitor each night for the past year. This was a stray dog they had nicknamed “Subway Sally.” She would knock on their door, and the staff would give her some of the meat that they use to make sandwiches. When they don’t, the pooch would cross the street to Taco Bell to ask for food there. However, an employee named Giovanni Luhman said that they always try to feed the dog.
After so many months of the doggie coming over, Luhman decided to film the visits of Subway Sally and post the videos on his TikTok account. Little did he know that his clip would go viral online and reach over ten million views! The adorable pooch became so popular that people even went to the restaurant, hoping to meet her.
Videos for awareness
Luhman continued posting videos of the pooch as she kept on visiting each night. He also explained that although he was not able to take in the dog himself, they would continue to feed her regularly. The employees didn’t count bringing Subway Sally to their local shelter as an option since it has a high kill rate and was better off where she was until someone could bring her home.
After the popularity of Subway Sally through her videos, Luhman hopes to do even more good. He is planning on starting up a pet food drive to help families with dogs who have low incomes. This is so they won’t have to turn away their pooches for lack of funding to buy them food.
