Soldier Dog Retires And Comes Home To A Surprise Reunion

Dogs trained to do specific tasks are a special breed. This training is a particular education that has occurred for a long time.  Trained dogs serve a singular purpose in the community.

What Type of Training does a Working Dog receive?

Depending on their training, working dogs assist people with special needs. Some people who don’t see well use working dogs extend their vision. Other dogs learn skills useful for emergency services. They support recuers saving people from harm.

Are there examples of these working dogs?

Bakk is a service dog. He completed training in the  United States Military as a working dog in the air force.

 

Bakk is a German Shepherd working in South Korea. Bakk, paired with one of his handlers and future dad, Tech Sgt. Dustin Cain performs daily.

Do the working dogs like what they do?

The first time they united, Cain knew that Bakk was unique. Instant chemistry developed between Bakk and Cain. Bakk was eager to work with his new handler right away. Work in the service is often hard.  Even so, despite the rigors of daily work they love being together.

 

Tech Sgt. during reassignment Cain left  Bakk was left behind in Korea. Bakk continues his work, but with another handler.  For some reason, Cain knew that he would see Bakk again.

What happens when they leave the service?

Cain heard the news that Bakk tore a ligament. Because of Bakk’s age, he was not able to have surgery. However, Bakk was still perfect for adoption.

 

Cain jumped at the chance; He applied for the adoption of Bakk. News of their reunion quickly spread throughout the local community;  A scheduled meeting for the two friends occurred.

Reunion in the Making

When the day came for the meeting, Bakk walked into a room full of energy. Cain had a toy with him to remind Bakk of the time they spent together. As soon as Bakk came close, he remembered Cain,  and his face lit up and got excited.

Back to a New Home

Today, Bakk lives with his new family in Idaho. This veteran dog now lives a life full of love and playfulness with Cain’s family.
