Soshe, a Maltese, has been stuck in their house for a week.
She is one of the many animals that were stranded because of Hurricane Florence.
There are many reported cases similar to her's. The local authorities needed more help.
A team from Humane Society of Missouri’s Disaster Response was dispatched.
They led the rescue of the tiny dog who was left floating around inside the house on a sofa.
Soshe also didn't have food or clean water for the whole week that she was stranded.
The flood waters peaked at roof level in some areas, so the rescuers needed to make several attempts to reach Soshe's address.
Their boat broke down during their third attempt, but that did not stop them in finishing their mission.
The paddled the remaining half a mile that they still needed to cross.
When they got to the address where Soshe was still floating, they could see the dog camping out on the odd looking couch floating inside.
Now, they had difficulty opening the door.
The water made the wood swell, and also increase the pressure inside the house.
It was like a huge force pressing outward against the tightly shut door.
They had to kick in the door to finally get to the poor dog.
Soshe was obviously too tired and frightened to swim towards them.
She was also very hungry and exhausted when they finally broke through.
Soshe is now her cheery self again thank to the team.
She enthusiastically scarfed down her first meal in a week. Soshe joined up with her owner's friend.
The friend was frantic as she too was stuck out of town by the hurricane.
She said that Soshe's owner was so upset the whole time knowing that the dog was left all alone inside the house.
Thanks to the rescue team, Soshe and owner are both happy and fed again.
