Can you imagine a dog doing CPR on a human person?
There are many occasions when dogs saved people especially their owners. They give warnings during emergencies, serve as a guide, do errands, and other cases of heroism – big and small. But to give their human companion a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is out of this world.
Well, a police dog from Madrid, Spain named Poncho did precisely just that. The Madrid Police trained Poncho to perform CPR. In one instance, a police officer was shown to collapse. Automatically, Poncho who dons a blue police light on his back ran immediately to the collapsed policeman.
The dog pumped the man’s chest using his legs. In between, Poncho would nestle his head on the policeman’s neck as a sign that he was checking his pulse. The Madrid police caught the showcase of skills in a video which they posted on Twitter.
Even if it was just a simulation, it shows how a dog can do a man’s job in times of emergency. The video showed that there was no hesitation on the police dog’s part to save the life of a person in need of help.
Almost half a million Americans suffer from cardiac arrest each year. Majority of these cases happen outside the hospital. Approximately 90% of them ultimately die because of the lack of first aid.
According to data, 45 percent of cardiac arrest cases that happen outside of the hospital. They survived because CPR was performed on them. CPR gives a victim more chance of survival.
CPR attempts to keep blood flowing throughout the body of a person who suffered an attack. Due to cardiac arrest, a person’s heart might stop beating for some precious seconds which could mean his life. CPR is a necessary procedure to administer while waiting for medical personnel to arrive.
