Would you like something sweet to go with your coffee? How about a heart-meltingly feel-good story of a man and his blind and deaf dog? This pair has such a kind and loving relationship that you’re guaranteed to shed emotional tears at their video.
A 1-year-old Australian shepherd born with disabilities, Plum was a challenge to take care of. What she needed was a patient and understanding heart, someone who would always be there for her. For Aiden Michael Mann, it was love at first sight for both of them.
He instinctively knew that Plum would be a perfect fit, knowing his other dog Lola would welcome the blind/deaf dog with open paws. He was determined to give her a loving home, a haven that she deserved.
The world was already a pretty scary place, so much so if you have the additional burden of being blind and deaf. That’s why Aiden was extra careful every time he would wake up Plum from her nap. She would always wake up scared and confused, constantly needing reassurance that she was safe and secure.
Aiden tried everything from gentle touching to putting snacks near her nose. Nothing worked. She would always wake up in a panic.
After several trials, he finally discovered the best method on how to wake her: blowing gently on her muzzle. Sure enough, Plum would always wake up, although still a bit startled. She would instantly reach out and search for Aiden for her much-needed snuggles.
This pair has a long road of challenges awaiting them. Learning what communication style worked and what wouldn’t depend on good old-fashioned trial and error. There is no one formula in raising a dog, especially one who has vision and hearing disabilities.
No matter what lies ahead, Plum will always have her dad to catch her and keep her safe. Always.
