Mama Angel, a white shepherd mix, was rescued by Alice Gill of Southern Pup Rescue & Retreat two years ago.
Gill was on her way home when she saw Mama searching for food in a trashcan near the cemetery.
She recalls how skinny Mama was and covered in ticks.
Gill felt sorry for the dog and wanted to rescue her right there and then.
However, she noticed Mama’s breasts engorged and that she is producing milk, which translates to the fact that she has puppies to feed.
But the puppies were nowhere near their mom.
So instead of rescuing her right away, she went home, got some dog food and tick medication for the dog.
Gill went back to the place she last saw Mama and spotted her by the grave with blue roses on top, together with another dog whom she named Charlie.
She said that Mama was happy to see her and was wagging her tail nonstop.
She gave them food and applied the medication for ticks to both dogs while they eat.
Out of curiosity, Gill walked towards the house near the cemetery and asked about the dogs.
The homeowner named Carl informed her about Mama’s previous owner who died two weeks before she gave birth. She was buried under the blue roses where she found Mama.
Also, he didn’t know where the puppies are and had not seen them with the dog.
Carl was kind enough to go with her to Mama’s previous owner’s place.
He allowed them to search the property for the puppies.
Even still they could not find them.
But on their way back to Carl’s house, they saw Mama entering an old shed where her three hungry puppies greeted her.
Gill recalled feeling relieved to see Mama and her puppies safe.
She took in Mama and her puppies with her, including Charlie.
Thanks to Gill’s hard work, Mama and her family will never go hungry again.
