How Can We Make A Visit To The Vet Less Stressful?

A Vet visit can be stressful and nerve-racking for any pet. Animals become tenser. Sometimes lash out unexpectedly in an unfamiliar environment. Strange smells and unknown noises add to the stress level. One clinic in Russia has a helpful solution.

Alexey Krotov from Rostov-on-Don is the Vet in question. He rescued a raccoon early on and domesticated it. He calls the raccoon Yasha. Initially, Yasha shared the house with his family. Over time Yasha went to work with Alexey. With Yasha going to work the clinic obtained a new attraction.

Consequently, Krotov began to notice that Yasha had a talent for disarming frightened clients that were visiting. Krotov began hearing reports of enjoyment from families.  Yasha had become the greeter. Because of this, it felt more like a trip to a friend’s house than going to see the vet.

Yasha likes to inspect, knaw on and play with various four-legged friends as they come through. The dogs seem to like him the most although some of the cats will use him for target practice.

Yasha has become somewhat of a local attraction in town. People and pets stop by to see how Yasha is doing and have a romp.

Krotov has noticed that the stress level in the animals is much lower when they see Yasha and begin to interact with him. It almost seems they are looking for Yasha when they come. It’s like “Hey, it’s Yasha’s house! Great”.

“Anything I can do that will  make the experience better I am all for,” says Krotov  “Its fun to see the animals enjoying each other.” “Yasha likes to play; I think the other animal’s sense that things will be OK with Yasha being so at ease. I Like the feeling Yasha gives to his visitors. This emotional bond calms them and distracts them from an otherwise stressful environment.”, Krotov explains.

Take a look at some of the friends Yasha has developed in recent years. See if they do enjoy each other. It is hard to believe that it’s a Vet’s office that this is occurring.
