Last January, a staff member of the Harris County Animal Shelter rescued a stray dog. The said animal shelter served as this dog’s home for nearly a week; Subsequently, she transferred to the Ruff Start Rescue led by Lexi Johnson. Lexi was impressed by the excellent feedback she received regarding the rescued dog. She said she learned the dog was very charming and highly amiable.
When Lexi got her, she indeed confirmed the description she previously heard about the dog was correct. Lexi named her new dog Zooey. Zooey, as Lexi later found out, is deaf. It is incredible Zooey can understand hand signs for simple instructions. Lexi was also impressed that Zooey makes herself feel at ease inside a dog cage.
It is undeniable that Zooey is well-mannered and has received proper training. She understands simple hand gestures. What an advantage! However, despite this, it has not been easy for the rescue center to find the right family to adopt her.
Some prospective families inquired about her, but for some unexplained reasons, the applications did not clear. One likely reason though was her disability.
A few months have passed, and information reveals that Zooey already has a family of her own.
It all started when Mandy Lyons commented on Zooey’s photo online. She said that the dog’s real name is Penelope and that she is a deaf dog.
After investigating Mandy’s claim, the story was true. She is the real owner of the adorable pooch. Penelope and Mandy joined up in their home in Houston, Texas. Their reunion is indeed a beautiful sight to see. Finally, Penelope has reunited with her real family. Both are very happy and grateful.
