Five-Legged Baby Bulldog Gets A Chance At Life

Dogs that are born with congenital defects are usually put down to sleep by their breeders. The reason why breeders opt to euthanize these dogs is that they would be too demanding to raise. Also, breeders say that most of these dogs won't even last a year so it would be a waste of time and resources to even consider giving them a chance at life.

But if you are an honest-to-goodness dog lover, you will never discriminate. Your love of dogs will extend not only to those puppies that are born all cute and cuddly but also to the ones that have been born a little less lucky. Take, for instance, Ellery Max.

Ellery Max is a 25-day-old bulldog. Just like other puppies, he's full of life and vigor. Sadly, he was born with an extra leg.

Usually, we welcome anything “extra”. Extra money, sure. Extra time, why not?

When it comes to a puppy, however, an extra leg is not quite welcome.

Ellery Max's extra leg did not sit well with his breeder. The latter was quick to surrender the dog to anyone who showed interest. Fortunately, Ellery Max ended up in the hands of a woman who has devoted her life to taking care of unwanted animals.

Ellery Max's breeder warned his adopter that the dog will most likely not outlive his first few hours, Still, the kind-hearted woman decided to give Ellery Max a shot at life. After all, miracles do exist and there's no reason to think it won't happen this time.

The woman was confident that Ellery Max will beat the odds. She's seen that kind of resilience before in the unwanted animals she'd adopted. She was hoping Ellery Max would fight the good fight, too.

And the dog sure did. He's on his way to becoming healthier as the day goes by.
