Having your pet dog missing is probably one of the worst feelings that a person could go through. But imagine finding out that your dog ran away and almost lost his life, while you were browsing through Facebook. That is precisely what Jeremy Aller went through last December.
Jeremy went out of town for the holidays along with his mom Lisa Aller. They left their one-year-old Golden Retriever, Gunner, at their home in Celina, Ohio. They had arranged for their relatives to visit the pooch every day to feed him. However, it turned out they left the back door open and Gunner seized the opportunity to escape.
Perhaps Gunner was so bored not having his humans around, so he thought of going on a little adventure. Unfortunately, that doggie adventure almost ended in horror as Gunner fell into Grand Lake which was frozen at the time. Luckily for him, Kevin Klosterman was around.
Kevin was with a few friends taking photos of the frozen lake when he received a call from his brother. He was told that there was a runaway dog who fell into the lake and he needed rescuing. Kevin grew up around Grand Lake, so he knew that it only takes five minutes for hypothermia to set in both in humans and dogs.
So he immediately put on a life vest, grabbed a canoe, and search for Gunner. In just four minutes, he was able to rescue the doggo. If Kevin didn’t arrive on time, who knows how this story would’ve ended. This rescue story was posted on Kevin’s brother’s Facebook group and went viral in a matter of hours.
Because the video and the story spread like wildfire, the Allers who were on vacation, found out about Gunner’s little adventure. During an interview, Lisa said that he was so scared for Gunner and Kevin as she knew walking on thin ice is dangerous. But since Kevin has been around Grand Lake all his life, they had nothing to worry about. Jeremy expressed his deepest gratitude because Gunner is not only his pet, but he is Jeremy’s therapy dog as well.
