Peppermint is a stray dog who was recently rescued. Peppermint was found in terrible shape. She was found with a rope tied to her leg. The people from the rescue center could see that she was in pain and wanted to get her checked.
They brought her to an animal clinic to be assessed, as Dr. Jeff examined the affected area. He discovered that part of Peppermint’s leg bone was hard and swollen.
This could mean that it has an old fracture. With thick and hard scar tissue, it would be difficult to reach the bone. The idea is to put a pin on all the broken pieces and put them back together.
Amputating the leg would be the last resort. Before the surgery, Peppermint was sedated. This is a common practice in the clinic when dealing with fractures. The method is to make sure that they don’t cause the dog any further pain. This also helps the vet tech conduct necessary tests.
Dr. Jeff worked on Peppermint’s surgery and drilled the pins to her bones. Only an x-ray could tell if the pins are pinned correctly. When they took another x-ray, the pins did not get through to all the bones.
Unfortunately, they needed to open Peppermint’s sutures again to correct it. The whole operation took three hours. After those grueling hours, Peppermint was finally recovering, and he was recovering well.
Thankfully, a family was going to adopt Peppermint. They were willing to wait until Peppermint would feel better.
Peppermint’s operation was done during the Christmas season. It seems that Peppermint is getting all the right Christmas presents. She gets her leg corrected, and she gets a family. She deserves all of that.
Peppermint was such a good dog, even with three hours of surgery. Not once did she complain. She deserves all that she got this season. It truly is a season to be merry.
