Robert Weber from Queensland had spent 18 days lost in bushland. A week after his rescue, Nessie, his dog, was found.
Nessie, a Bull Arab cross, was found on the property of the Gympie MP, Tony Perrett.
Nessie had lost a significant amount of weight during her time in the bush, but apart from weight loss, she was OK. Perrett stated that she was a very lucky pup.
He said that they constantly kept an eye out for her, but they just gave up on finding her and thought she may not be alive. However, one late Sunday afternoon, the dog just wandered into the home on the property.
Perrett said Weber was ecstatic to hear that Nessie had been found and survived while she was lost when he called him to tell him the good news.
Weber was surprised to receive Perrett’s call as he was about to give up on finding Nessie. This is because, in the country, there are packs of wild dogs that are vicious to domestic dogs and wedge-tailed eagles that prey on smaller animals.
When Weber gets lost, Nessie does not follow him but makes her way home. They were shocked when they found Weber, as Nessie wasn’t with him.
Perrett said that he did not know where the dog went and that they had initially thought it would be easier to find Nessie than Robert. He also stated that after leaving his vehicle and getting lost on their cattle property, Robert had no dog, but they were always hopeful that Nessie would follow him. However, when they finally found Robert, the dog was still missing.
Nessie will stay with Perrett and be nursed back to health before she is picked up in the next couple of days.
