Dogs are nurturing by nature, and some would even take other species as their own.
Some of you may have read about dogs adopting kittens and nursing them along with their puppies.
This is often the case for a few days old without a mom.
Due to the dog’s strong maternal instinct, it didn’t matter if the kitten is not in their litter,
they give the same amount of care and attention just as they would their own pups.
But a dog that produces milk exclusively for her adopted kitten is unheard of.
Even so, it was the case for Mittens.
Earlier in the week, Pat Weber’s grandson found a kitten in their barn freezing to death.
Her grandson immediately took the kitten inside their house and wrapped it in a towel to warm it up.
Thankfully, the kitten regained consciousness and started to move and meow again.
As the family was busy attending to their rescue kitten Mittens their dog was eager to see what they were doing and decided to join in.
They thought that Mittens might be able to help and care for the kitten, so they let her see the kitten.
The family was surprised to see Mittens attending the kitten with so much love as if it were her own.
She would lick and clean the kitten whom later on they named Boots.
A few days later, they noticed Boots spending much time on Mittens’ belly as if it was nursing.
They noticed that her breasts were engorged, concerned about Mittens’ health;
They decided to take Mittens to a vet.
To their surprise, they found out that Mittens was, in fact, producing milk for the kitten.
According to studies, a dog who produces milk and not pregnant is often caused by a hormonal imbalance,
but for Pat, she considers it a miracle.
Also, they are planning on giving the kitten Boots it’s forever home.
