Akelah is a dog from Sta. Rosa, California, and he is a very bright dog. His cleverness though is not related to his unfortunate experiences with the glass door at home. He has encountered a lot of painful hits on the windows.
There are a lot of dogs like Akelah; running around the house and unexpectedly bang their noses so hard on a door…ouch! But Akelah has learned a lot from all his pain. He never wanted to go through the same experience again.
One day, the Christmas tree was all up, and Akelah was just there behind an open door (which he believed was closed). He just sat there staring at the tree. Meanwhile, the family has gathered around the tree drinking hot cider. It was evident that he wanted to join the family but was also hesitant. You see it was because of the glass door between them. He did not even notice the door was open.
One of his human siblings pretended to open the door. It was hilarious to watch as he stepped inside the house full of excitement. Maybe he was telling himself, “You can never fool me now.”
There is a logical explanation. You see, not long ago Akelah banged his nose on the closed door. The family called him in with the door still closed. Akelah and the door soon had a close and uncomfortable encounter. Because of this, he won't go thru this door.
