Deciding to Breed Puppies; What to Consider

Choosing to breed puppies is a deliberate decision. It is heartwarming to observe an adorable pup then decide that you too may love to have your place loaded with puppies. These little dogs do this to people. They are so cute and innocent.

They are just sitting there causing many people to get tricked into thinking that puppies are no trouble at all. But, it's the other way around. Oh Yes, puppies are a lot of fun and raising them can be very rewarding, but they are also a lot of work.

They can also be quite expensive. For these reasons, one should proceed with caution. Care is needed when deciding to breed puppies. Don't give into those adorable little faces by jumping into the decision to breeding pups too quickly.

This article will outline several issues potential breeders should consider before diving into the project.

Breeding puppies for fun is certainly an essential factor in the decision process. But, this should consider with a desire to produce top quality animals as well as a willingness to be a responsible and conscientious breeder.

Many hobby breeders started because they love a particular breed. They also got into breeding for fun and excitement, which is fine as long as they are also taking care and being responsible in the process.

There is a lesson in breeding puppies for fun though. The warning is that not everything about the breeding process will be fun. It is essential to understand playing with the puppies and socializing them is a joy, but along with that comes hard work raising puppies.

While breeding for the fun of it will likely reveal the process as rewarding when they take the long view in the breeding process. Laughter will sound along the way, but the end product should be a healthy and happy animal. Ready for another family to obtain and care for them.

Reproduction as a business is another venture altogether. It is an attractive idea when you love dogs. Sure it is possible to profit from breeding their dogs or bitches.

However, the profit should never above the animals well being. In the end, the dogs are less family friendly and tend to have more issues. And the loss of investment is a possible outcome related to unanticipated expenses.

These expenses can include the standard things like health certifications, immunizations and stud fees. Also, pre-natal care for the bitch new puppy supplies and food until their new families adopt them.

However, they can also be an unexpected bill like an emergency visit to the veterinarian for the mother, the puppies or both. Possibly and emergent c-section because of distress by the mother or care for sick puppies.

These can add up quickly for sure they will impact the bottom line for a breeding business.

Another possible revenue loss occurs when a potential family changes their mind. There goes the food bill down goes the profit. Buyers may line up before the puppies are born.

However, they may have pre-conceived ideas in their mind that does not match the end product the mother is presenting. Maybe the coloring of the puppy or the sex is different than what they were anticipating. Oops, there goes another sale!e.

After the puppies arrive, they discover the one they had in their head is not the one they are holding on their lap. Subsequently, they are no longer in the market for the puppy you are offering. If the breeder does not find another family, they may be forced to sell an older dog for less money.

Carefully consideration of time and money should be given if a professional breeding business is on your mind. Sure the puppies will sleep quite a bit when they are very young and nursed by their mother.

Still, during this time they will need their whelping box changed regularly; and will need social interactions to help them to learn to bond with people.

And for sure these little critters will need limited amounts of exercise. As the puppies get a little older and begin to wean, they will need to be fed, cleaned and exercised regularly.

They will also need to start potty training, and they will likely become more active and spend less time sleeping. Oldde and more active dogs mean you will be working harder to ensure the puppies are staying out of trouble.

Keeping your house puppy proof will help, but mischievous little puppies can always find a way to get into trouble even in the most careful puppy proofed home.

Potential breeders should make sure they have the time and enough money to invest for all of this.
