Nobody knows how two big dogs got themselves stuck in a narrow storm drain somewhere in Jurupa Valley City in Riverside County, California. Passersby were certainly puzzled when they saw the dogs’ heads jutting out from under the sidewalk one Friday morning.
The canine pair most likely had to squeeze their bodies into the cramped space. However, they were too big to get back out, so they were stuck there for who knows how long.
Luckily, the manager of a nearby motel spotted them and called the Riverside County Department of Animal Services for assistance.
The county officials who arrived at the scene took photos of the Dobermans and posted a bemused tweet stating that they had “no idea how two dogs got inside (the) sewer.”
The Doberman Pinschers looked fine, thankfully. The mutts were neither distressed nor aggressive, and they were waiting for the humans to liberate them from their temporary prison with the most patient expressions on their faces.
Realizing that the only way to retrieve the dogs was to remove the grate covering the storm drain, Animal Services sought the help of the CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department. The workers quickly solved the problem, and the Dobermans were free at last!
Animal Services found out the dogs were both adult females, and one of them was a mixed breed but was just as big as her buddy. Fortunately, neither of them appear to have suffered any injuries from the incident.
According to John Welsh, spokesperson for Riverside County Department of Animal Services, rescuers promptly brought the two Doberman Pinschers to a clinic where they underwent a complete medical examination.
County officials want to know how the dogs came to be trapped in the storm drain, and they urge anyone who has witnessed “anything suspicious” to come forward or send tips to Animal Services via email.
