Bringing The Fun Back In Dog Walks

woman, walking, dog

Dog walks can be fun and exciting, at first. Admit it or not, but it can get boring, and it’s something we have to do daily. That’s why most people neglect this responsibility as a pet parent.

Have you tried changing your daily routine with your dog walks? It’s something you can do, and it will make things more exciting for you and your dog. There are things you can try.

Let your dog navigate

The usual thing about dog walks is that the pet parent is the one leading the hikes. You decide where and where to go. For a change why don’t you let your dog take direction? Just ensure he’s not leading you somewhere unsafe.

Make sure to do this in a familiar area. Do not try this when you are on vacation with your dog. Chances are you will get lost if you are not accustomed to the place.

Let your dog explore

When out on walks give your dog a chance to sniff around. Allow him to explore the surroundings. Doing this will help stimulate your dog’s brain as well.  You’ll go home with a dog that’s had his physical exercise and mental stimulation. I’d say he’ll be a happy and satisfied dog when you get back.

Walk for a cause

Have you heard of the apps ResQwalk and WoofTrax? These apps let you raise money just by walking your dog. No, the money won’t go to you. It will go to animal rescue centers affiliated with those apps.

It’s simple to use. Just like any exercise or walk apps, you hit the start button when you begin walking and done when you’re finished. Your walk progress will be saved then sent to the organization that you chose.

Visit the local park

Routine is another factor that causes boring walks. So, why don’t you try going to the park instead? It's better if the park requires a drive.  Your dog will enjoy the ride. And when you get to the park, you’ll both enjoy the change in scenery.

Change your route

If you take the same course every day, you and your pup will inevitably get bored with your walks. Try a different way every once in a while. Explore the other streets. You’ll be amazed at the things you'll find. Who knows, you might find a good coffee shop or a pizza place down the block.

Invite someone

Walking your dog doesn’t mean that it will have to be just the two of you. Invite a friend to join your walks. It’s better if your friend has a dog too. But it’s okay if he doesn’t. Having some new company while doing routine things can make it more exciting and fun.

Change the pace

If you usually take your dog for walks, you can try jogging or brisk walking sometimes. Just change the speed for both of you. It will make things less tedious and a lot healthier. But of course, don’t forget to take into consideration your dog’s age and situation. If you have a senior dog, changing the pace won’t be such a good idea.

It’s up to you which technique you’ll use. Just make sure you get that dog walking daily. Both of you need it.
