Animals, such as dogs, suffer in many ways in the hands of irresponsible humans. One kind of abuse they go through is animal hoarding. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), animal hoarding is an intricate issue with effects concerning mental health and public safety.
Thankfully, some kindhearted people are willing to rescue animals that have been victims of hoarding. More than 40 dogs in Mississippi were now in loving foster homes after being lifted from a hoarding situation.
Saving the pups from miserable conditions
The Tails Humane Society of DeKalb, Illinois, had announced that they rescued 44 dogs from hoarding in a rural place in Mississippi. The team who went to the site said that the animals were living in deplorable conditions.
Through a Facebook post, Tails wrote that an elderly couple became overwhelmed with the number of pooches they were caring for; the organization was glad that the couple reached out for help. In less than 24 hours, Tails sprang into action, mobilizing and loading their vehicles with blankets, transport crates, food, and medical supplies.
According to the rescuers, the pooches were in various states of mistreatment. Some were covered in ticks and fleas while others were suffering from skin infections and matting. Seven of the dogs even tested positive for heartworm disease.
A new life for the rescued pooches
After being rescued, the dogs were given medical treatments. Then, they were transferred to loving foster homes. The rescue team said that none of the 44 pups had ever known the safety and comfort provided by a home with a warm bed, food, and even love.
Tails offered an update, saying that many of the amazing pups it had rescued were starting to decompress. The organization added that the dogs were getting more and more comfortable in their foster homes.
