Michael Vargas has been exploring lesser-seen corners and spaces of the cityscape for over a decade now. As an urban explorer, he loves to uncover the many hidden and forgotten treasures and document them for other people to see. And just recently, he has found probably the best treasure ever in his entire career.
As the story went, Michael dove into yet another adventure exploring a canal near his home in Oakland. And then when he and his colleagues saw some interesting graffiti lines on the wall, they decided to pause and take some photos. They were just hanging out when Michael’s girlfriend suddenly exclaimed telling them that she found a small white dog trapped deep inside the storm drain.
Michael rushed to see the dog and he knew that he had to quickly act to save its life. If they fail to save the dog then it would not survive for long. He then slowly tried to lure it out with treats and it took about an hour to get the dog out. Though it did trust them a bit, the dog was obviously scared, nervous, and weak.
After the rescue mission, Michael drove the dog to the vet where he learned that it had a few issues that needed treatment. He was also told that the dog probably endured abuse before. Nevertheless, Michael still hoped that the dog had loving owners who are looking for him. But when the vet checked for any ID or chip, they didn’t find any.
So, Michael and his colleagues tried calling shelters and checking lost-and-found as well as next-door neighbors. Unfortunately, no one seemed to be out looking for the dog. That was when Michael decided to officially take in the dog whom he named Rusty. After everything that happened, he knew that he and Rusty bonded already. And no matter what Rusty’s past was, Michael will work hard to give him a better future.
