For dogs, loyalty extends far beyond just sticking by their human’s side. This rescued dog named Autumn is an example.
She was adopted from an animal shelter, and she became her adoptive mom’s service dog. She knows when it’s time for mom to take her medication, and this dog alerts mom when the latter is running low on it. She and her mom became inseparable.
Service dogs provide independence and freedom to those who might not otherwise have it due to physical or mental disabilities. They open up a world of possibility by giving people the ability to live relatively normal lives despite their limitations.
Service dogs are God-sends to people who have special needs. For example, people who need a wheelchair to go shopping at the mall or go out to eat at a restaurant will be able to do so without relying on another person to help them.
Autumn’s mom isn’t in a wheelchair, but she could get seriously hurt if she doesn’t take her meds on time. Because of her dog’s timely reminders, she never misses taking her medication, so mom thought of a way to reward her faithful dog.
One day, this Autumn’s mom brought home a stray kitten, who was left wandering alone on the streets. Autumn was immediately taken. At first, mom worried that her dog might hurt the little cat because she can be rough with other dogs.
Mom didn’t have to worry because the dog was so gentle with the kitten, and developed a strong bond. They’re now best buds and do everything together. Such a great heart you have there, Autumn!
Dogs are truly amazing creatures—not just because they provide us with unconditional love and companionship but also because they can change our lives for the better in ways we never thought possible.
