Everyone can agree when people say that puppies are the cutest little animals in the world. It’s what drives a lot of people to adopt dogs. However, some people don’t accept puppies that are less than perfect, and this is precisely what happened to a cute little bulldog puppy.
A breeder abandoned a bulldog named Bueller because he couldn’t walk. Just because the breeder couldn’t sell Bueller because of his condition, the breeder decided that he or she didn’t want the responsibility of caring for a disabled dog. The breeder dropped Bueller off at the local SPCA in Sacramento in a box.
When the SPCA found Bueller, the veterinarian was concerned about the little puppy. They discovered that Bueller’s legs had issues which prevented him from walking. They determined that a congenital defect caused Bueller’s condition.
Breeders tend to abandon puppies like Bueller. The reason is that no one would want to buy disabled puppies and they will just be a financial burden for the breeders. So, instead of doing everything to give these puppies a good life and chance for a happy one, breeders abandon them in shelters. And, in most shelters, puppies like Bueller get euthanized. The SPCA staff saw that Bueller is full of life, and they knew that he wanted to live. He’s adorable and, despite his condition, Bueller still likes to move as much as he can and play, which puppies usually do.
So, the SPCA in Sacramento decided to help Bueller walk. The staff and volunteers started Bueller on physical therapy to help him train his legs. They began with water therapy where a harness is put on Bueller, and he’s lowered to a basin of water.
Bueller would start using his legs in the water like he’s walking. And, because his legs aren’t pushed down by his body weight, Bueller can correct the position of his legs.
The SPCA staff and volunteers would put Bueller on a harness and encourage him to walk. Bueller is determined to learn how to walk that he kept on improving every day.
The day came when Bueller’s able to hold his weight up with his feet, and he was even able to jump up with only his back legs supporting him. When Bueller walked for the first time, all the staff and volunteers at the SPCA were in tears. They knew that the tiny puppy who couldn’t walk finally has a chance to live normally.
Bueller’s story made it on the local news where a couple who recently lost their beloved pet dog saw him. Lindsay and Alex decided to contact the SPCA expressing their interest in adopting Bueller to give him a great life.
When they lost their dog, their life seemed empty and incomplete. They remembered how their dog provided such happiness in their lives, and they knew that Bueller could give them that happiness back.
Lindsay and Alex couldn’t be happier when they were approved for Bueller’s adoption. The night before they picked up Bueller and take him home, Lindsay couldn’t stop thinking about Bueller. She and Alex were so excited about getting a new puppy to be part of their family.
Bueller still had a little trouble walking, but Lindsay and Alex would help him train his legs more. They would take him swimming and play with him to exercise his legs to strengthen the muscles. Bueller eventually grew up to be the happiest dog who loves running and spending time with his human parents.
Here’s a video showing how Bueller progressed from a dog that can’t walk to a dog that taught himself how to walk. Thanks to people like the staff at the Sacramento SPCA as well as the lovely couple, Lindsay and Alex, Bueller made it and found a forever home.
