A Man’s Patience Won The Love Of His Shy Rescue Dog

When Alex got Sunny, a rescue dog, she was very shy and timid. She would just stay in the crate and not interact at all with anybody. However, Alex did not want to give up on her.

Alex was very patient in gaining Sunny's trust. He would let Sunny get used to his presence and not force her to do anything unless she was comfortable with it. After a couple of weeks, Sunny voluntarily came out of her crate.

They were not very close yet. Alex had to establish a bond with Sunny. It was very encouraging that Sunny took that step of letting her dad get close to her and touch her.

Alex was consistent in showing love and patience to Sunny even when she could be a handful at times. He tried not to be too harsh on Sunny when he came home to find that she had torn the blinds to shreds. He understood that Sunny was not used to living inside a house yet.

Living together was a big adjustment for both of them. Alex learned how to handle the responsibilities of dog ownership. He trained Sunny on which behaviors were acceptable around the house. Eventually, they both settled into a comfortable daily life.

Sunny seemed to enjoy running outdoors, so Alex took her camping. She could run to her heart's content without her leash. Sunny trusted Alex more because she knew that she would not get abandoned even if they went somewhere. Alex would still take her home with him.

After that camping trip, Sunny started to warm up to Alex. She liked cuddling up to her dad and falling asleep next to him. She could not stop giving him wet kisses, too.

Rescuing a dog entailed great responsibility, but it also meant changing the life of the dog and the adopter.
