The Doggy

A Dog Acted Instinctively To Save His Dad’s Life By Waking Him Up During A Heart Attack

A man in Michigan might not have survived a heart attack if it were not for his dog who alerted him.

Ken Richter was fast asleep when he woke up with a start at roughly two in the morning. His dog, a Pitbull and Labrador mix named Cheyenne, slammed her body against him. It was very uncharacteristic of her that Ken was confused and upset at first. He even yelled at his faithful dog in frustration because he just had surgery.

Minutes later, his chest started to hurt and he had a hard time breathing. The pain grew more intense so he did not waste any more time. He drove himself to a hospital in Gladwin. He had not been there long when hospital staff told him that an ambulance would take him to a medical center in Midland.

By the following morning, the doctors had put a stent in him. He then learned that he had experienced a fatal heart attack. He was informed that his left ventricle had 99 percent blockage. His doctors commented that if Cheyenne did not wake him up, it was highly unlikely that he would wake up on his own.

He definitely realized that he owed his life to his faithful dog. Cheyenne was never trained to detect any medical conditions. It was probably her instincts and her love for Ken that made her sensitive to his condition.

Thanks to a very alert dog, Ken's children still had a father and he was able to celebrate his next birthday. It was a lesson for Ken to appreciate those who love him and not to take them for granted ever again.

Ken and Cheyenne's bond had gotten stronger. Ken would make sure to give Cheyenne all the treats and the love because no one deserved them more than her.
