A Cruise Ship Passenger Discovers A Malnourished Dog On A Remote Island And Rescues Her

An Irish visitor named David Foster, who was on a tour that stopped on a remote island, rescued a starving dog.

The dog was alone with no one to rely on. She was hungry, had ticks on her body, and a wounded ear.

She was not in good health and she looked like she wouldn’t last much longer. The nearest town was hours away, and the island itself provided little food. Furthermore, the Amazon River’s annual surge would soon engulf the island where she resided.

When she came running up to the cruise ship passengers, they didn’t immediately recognize her as a dog since she was so thin. Her body language suggested that she was happy to see them, maybe believing that she’d found salvation. Foster pleaded with the captain and other passengers to allow him to carry the dog on board.

After a while, Foster started calling the dog Negrita. He looked after her until the boat reached a location where a veterinarian could assist her. His first plan was to take her to Ireland, but he realized he’d have to find her a temporary home while he dealt with the paperwork that comes with international canine relocations.

He expected it would take only a few weeks, but it took five months to get her medically cleared and deal with all the red tape. When Negrita finally came to Ireland, she was so much healthier that he almost couldn’t recognize her. Foster, who found his dog in such bad health a few months ago, said he wouldn’t believe it was the same dog if it hadn’t been for the cut part of her ear.

Foster’s love for animals didn’t stop with Negrita. He also founded Play For Strays, an organization that provides toys and support to animal rescue organizations all over the world.
